Phil Minton - Feral Choir

About
Workshop: January 22 - 24, 2010 Performance: Sunday, January 24, 2010, 4pm Free Workshop & Performance
Phil Minton's Feral Choir workshop has been a hit all over the world. A renowned singer and improviser, Minton will lead a choir of community participants in a fun and
experimental vocal workshop and performance. Free to participate! if you're interested in participating please email info [at] newmusic [dot] org before January 18, 2010. No experience necessary!
The Feral Choir project is a series of vocal workshops with non-professionals, leading up to performances. It originated in the late 1980's when I was asked to do some workshops with 'non-singers' in the Musik Centrum Stockholm. The success of these led me to develop the idea further. The choir consists of a three day workshop and performance, not only for singers but for anyone who takes a delight in the freedom to experiment. I encourage participants to take a vocal leap and explore all vocal possibilities through exercises and improvisations, over the workshop period, leading to a concert.

Tundra Songs: Kronos Quartet with Tanya Tagaq

About
Always at the forefront, seeking the new and pushing the boundaries of the traditional string quartet to its limits, it is no surprise the Kronos Quartet sought out Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq for another extraordinary collaboration. With David Harrington and John Sherba on violins, Hank Dutt on viola, and Jeffrey Zeigler on cello, Kronos has explored the possibilities of the musical world together for thirty-five years.

Jerk

About
Gisèle Vienne's Jerk is based on the chilling text of Dennis Cooper, an author deemed "the most dangerous writer in America" by the Village Voice. It is a story told from the vantage point of David Brooks, the real life accomplice to Texas serial killer Dean Corll who was responsible for the deaths of more than 25 teenage boys in the early 1970s.
Devised as a play within a play, the audience takes the role of a psychology class visiting Brooks (played by Jonathan Capdevielle) as he serves his life sentence in prison. Fascination, humour, madness and sheer terror are melded in his puppet show recreations of the gruesome, sexually charged murders. Jerk is theatre at its starkest, a harrowing journey into the most hidden corners of the human psyche.
